Understanding Lot Specifications
Key Concepts:
- Lot Size: Minimum number of units you must trade. You cannot trade fractional lots.
- Tick Size: Minimum price increment. Price can only move in these increments.
- Min Price Move: The minimum rupees gained/lost per tick movement. Calculated as Lot Size × Tick Size.
Examples:
NIFTY (50 lot size, 0.05 tick):
Min Price Move = 50 × 0.05 = ₹2.50 per tick
If NIFTY moves 100 points (2000 ticks), P&L = 2000 × 2.50 = ₹5,000
BANKNIFTY (15 lot size, 0.05 tick):
Min Price Move = 15 × 0.05 = ₹0.75 per tick
Higher contracts = higher absolute moves, but more leverage required
